Summer Must-Read for Kids? Any Book

"How many teachers and school librarians advised me to let her read what she wanted! If I had, she would have only read the easy stuff and not pushed herself to read the good stuff. " I'd wager that your child also has grown up thinking that books are something to be endured, like medicine, or utilized like a tool, rather than something one can read simply for pleasure. She may be a merit scholar, but does reading make her HAPPY?

I know several people who do not read for pleasure. I much prefer those who do.

I spent more time in summer school than I like to remember. I passed the tests but learned a great deal about failure. I am surprised that such a simple direct study exists. The result deserves much broader dissemination.
