For Scholars, Web Changes Sacred Rite of Peer Review

The Internet is calling into question one of academia’s sacred rites: the peer- reviewed journal article.

"Lead, follow or get out of the way."

Peer review was intended to save pages and attention from time wasting noise.

it does that at a price.

Pages no longer have value but attention time is beyond price. Two stage publication may do that. Still, attractive nonsense like cold fusion will tend to escape and consume investigator time. The nonsense will be impossible to quash.
