Nighthawks Of the Mind

“Finding Nighthawks in #NYC http://nyti.ms/dykQG9 #lp #travel #art”

Jane Jacobs speaks of inhabited ruins as the life of the city. I have found it so.

The New York I knew in the sixties is all gone or very nearly so. I miss the city that I found. The city where all of the products for industry could be found in business hours. Where rails ran in the streets and the garment industry ran on man pulled racks because there was no space for motor transport. Where space was cheap and labor was not.

Where ships came into the harbour.

I found my own "Nighthawks" As Hopper did.

I now have to go past Albany to find survivals.

We love "locality" unless we know nothing else.
