Signs of Neanderthals Mating With Humans

About 1 percent to 4 percent of the DNA of non-Africans today comes from Neanderthals, a team in Germany reported, though some archaeologists are skeptical.

They should be.

We share 95% of our dna with chimpanzees. I would be very surprised if we did not share on the close order of 95% of our DNA with the Neanderthal.

The 5% we do not share with chimps is almost certainly partly shared with the Neanderthal. We share a more recent common ancestor. Nothing I can do about that. The timeline is much debated.--------
