Lies as Wishes
Most average American's have probably embellished their resumes a bit here and there. Heck, there are classes and seminars about doing just that thing -- making a mundane former job sound like you were the VP of the world. So, no, it's not surprising that pols do this too. But I see a real difference, ethically, between polishing my bona fides and a politician telling repeated lies about something as serious as military service...
"As a Viet-Nam vet, my first thought was, "my how times have changed." When I got on an airplane in Seattle in April of 1970 after reurning from I Corp my fellow passengers all looked up with the same expression which registered as "oh God, I hope he's not sitting by me." Now Harvard grads of the same era are wishing that they were there and causing a national furor when it turns out that they were not.
To all those who have weighed in on this topic, if you want to truly honor real vets stop at the Vietnam War Memorial and walk by the 58,000 plus names on the wall."
This highlighted comment fits my experience of combat vets of that period.
