Colleague Says Blumenthal Claims Grew in Time

America is a country where men and women must either be fitted with a black hat or a white hat in the public's view. We all know from the western movies that the guys in the black hats are irredeemably bad and need to be shot and killed by the guys wearing the white hats who are thoroughly virtuous. Those western gunfights seem to be the enduring pattern of our political process. We have never evolved culturally beyond this ten year old view of the world. We are unable to see our leaders or ourselves as capable of both great good and great evil at the same time. Perhaps we should fit Mr. Blumberg with a scarlet letter "L" to wear the rest of his life. Perhaps the seeds of our destruction were sown in the Puritanical values of our founding generation.
