    Congress, Up in Arms

There seems to be a strong sentiment in Congress that the only constitutional right suspected terrorists have is the right to bear arms.

    Congress, Up in Arms

You have the right to bear arms. But anything you say under enhanced interrogation can and will be held against you in a military tribunal. So, let your guns do the talking.

New Alarm Bells About Chemicals and Cancer Check!

The President’s Cancer Panel is the Mount Everest of the medical mainstream, so it is astonishing to learn that it is poised to join ranks with the organic food movement and declare: chemicals threaten our bodies.

Evidence Mounts for Taliban Role in Car Bomb Plot

Is it reasonable, responsible, caring, cost (human nad $$$) effective to teach the public, law enforcement, governmnet administration employee, bank and service sector personnel (where potential for aquiring national security/terrorist attack materials exist) to KEEP EYE on those who, so far, for 30 years now (since numerous airplane hijacking since the 70s) have been grosly overepresented, i.e. a great majority of perpetrators? Profile (yes, profile, dangerously too typical set of characteristics common for them, local McVeights not withstanding): male, 20-35, Muslim faith (either from Arab or islamic countries or our home-grown, often in our federal prison Islam convert)? Or are we - for politically correct or other reasons, say such as not to offend Saudis - guardians of islamic faith - so that CitiBank etc. can enjoy their invested dollars - going to continue to strip check at airports etc. say Swedish grandmas while in 30 years no one from that (and 90% of other ethnic/religious/etc. groups ever committed or try to commit terrorist act? BTW: A wholesale and brutally informal granting of legal cover, numerous rights (including working for government)via US citizenship ought to be seriously revised and tightened. And again: chance that that Swedish, Lutheran grandma etc. will in a year after gaining US citizenship (or any time in her life) would try terrorist act is extremely, impractically remote.

    No Fooling Mother Nature

There is only one meaningful response to the horrific oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and that is for America to stop messing around when it comes to designing its energy and environmental future. The only meaningful response to this man-made disa...

    Fear Itself

AMERICA AND WESTERN EUROPE ARE NOT WANT TO FACE THE TRUTH ABOUT ISLAM. ISLAM IS NOT LIKE OTHER RELIGIONS. MUSLIMS DON'T WANT TO ADOPT THE CULTURE OF THEIR ADOPTED COUNTRY LIKE USA OR EUROPE. THEY WANT PEOPLE OF USA AND EUROPE CONVERT TO ISLAM AND ADOPT MUSLIM CULTURE. MOST MUSLIMS ARE PEACE LOVING. BUT EVEN THEY WILL NOT OPPOSE IF RADICAL ISLAM IS IMPOSED ON PEOPLE OF OTHER FAITHS. PEW RESEARCH ASKED PAKISTANI WOMEN WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO A MUSLIM WHO LEAVES ISLAM. OVER 80 PERCENT SAID THE PERSON SHOULD BE PUT TO DEATH. I AM SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT BAD WOMEN. BUT THEY ARE FOLLOWING HOLY QURON. ACCORDING TO QURON THERE ARE ONLY TWO LANDS. 1. LAND OF ISLAM WHERE MUSLIMS RULE 2. THE LAND OF WAR WHERE THE MUSLIMS HAVE TO CONQUER. THAT WAS THE BASIS FOR CREATION OF PAKISTAN. THE MEN WHO FOUGHT FOR PAKISTAN WERE MOSTLY CONVERTS FROM HINDUS DURING ISLAMIC RULE OF THE SUBCONTINENT. DURING PARTITION 2 MILLION WERE KILLED AND 14 MILLION BECAME REFUGEES. IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT THE WEST SHED FEAR AND FACE THE TRUTH ABOUT ISLAM.

  • I think that the issue of testing 'chemicals' for cancer risks is important. I am concerned about several things ; why just cancer? There are numerous other important diseases and disease related events , eg ,cardiovascular that in developed countries is the larger threat. why not reproductive and developemental? The article refers to BPA...a compund with long known sex steroid effects. If we are going to evaluate the 'safety' of chemicals in our environment ( that includes foods) why not do it comprehensively in terms of the the risks to us and future generations? we also need to establish testing parameters. In Europe , there is concern (eg ethical) as to the number of animals that would be required for this type of testing(10 million). There is also concern as to what assays to run , their validity and reproducibility. why don't we consider marshalling resources from around the world rather than have the Europeans do it and the USA do it separately? IARC ( which though the name contains cancer has looked at many other disease risks) , a UN organization that the USA plays a significant role in ,might be a way forward that allows for proper focus , management and assesment as well as the frugal use of test animals where appropriate. Finally , the assesment of individual chemicals , though the general approach , does not reflect the reality of human exposures, which are complex (temporally , doseage) , multichemical. If we are going to do this in a serious manner, we need to go beyond the way we currently evaluate chemicals and the organizations which are tasked with making regulatory decisions...
