"A $144 million suit against Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One chief, brought by Constantin Medien, a German media company and a stakeholder in Formula One, was dismissed on Thursday. Ecclestone still faces criminal charges in Germany over the case, which says that he paid a $45 million bribe to a German banker, Gerhard Gribkowsky. The judge in the civil case in Britain threw out the lawsuit on a technicality, saying that while Mr. Ecclestone, 83, indeed paid the bribe in the 2005 deal, Medien did not lose money or suffer materially as a result.
It was a matter of no harm, no foul, essentially, although the judge said Ecclestone could be counted as neither reliable nor truthful as a witness. The matter is not over, though: A German court is scheduled to hear a criminal case against Ecclestone on the same matter in April."
